Who Really Cares If There Was A Pact?

Okay, so rarely do I get this riled about newspaper coverage, but I do have to say, I am getting tired of all of the coverage the girls from Gloucester High School in Massachusetts are getting. I think as a society, we are asking the wrong question. Do we really care if there was a pregnancy pact between the seventeen girls that are now pregnant. Isn't the proper question, why did they decide to get pregnant? Let's assume arguendo, that there was a pact, wouldn't the reason behind the pact be more important than the pact itself? And if there wasn't a pact, does that mean there was something in the water in Gloucester, Massachusetts? When will we forget about the stupid he said she said and get to the real question: why are high school kids getting pregnant?

Well, if you get down to the statistics of it all. There are about the same amount, if not more pregnancies in almost every city nearby. A group of girls a couple towns over from Gloucester made a parade float that poked fun at Gloucester High girls and pregnancies. It was actually pretty vile. WHat statistics show, though, is that there were actually two or three more pregnancies at there high school, they just didn't know.

Often when a girl gets pregnant, she disappears, and goes unnoticed. That's why people consider 17 to be so many. They are not used to seeing so many pregnant girls in school. Little does the rest of the world know, there were only a three or four girls that were visibly pregnant, and going to Gloucester High school at the time. The pregnant girls were either going to satellite programs to get their GED through the High School, or they had already dropped out.

I only ever saw five pregnant girls in the hallways of Gloucester High Schoo, all four years that I attended.

And no, there wasn't a pact.
